Despite the recent development in information and
communication technology like the Internet, some people are still left marginalized when it comes to its accessibility. And I didn't mean the lack of access to the Internet, what I have in mind are our disabled brothers and sisters. the good thing about the Internet is its universality. Everyone who access information in the Internet can rightly do so with ease as long as their connected. But the question remains: how do we make Internet a good medium for people with disabilities?
For instance a blind or visually impaired individual who may be eased up using a speech synthesizer may have difficulty getting information from purely graphical websites. Likewise, a deaf cannot work well when a website does not contain captions in
audio or video files and so on.
These situations may seem dire, but fortunately there are ways to improve or at least make
web pages accessible to those who are physically handicapped. In addition, softwares were also developed to cater to this marginalized section of our society. An improvement in this area is also likely needed in the coming years to help us prepare for worse things to come.
